Clive joined his family working for Levertons in 1959. He worked alongside brother Keith, father Ivor and uncle Chris Leverton and the rest of the team until he left to work for himself in the building profession in 1969. Re-joining in 1975, the experience he had gained and brought to the firm proved very useful in developing and growing the firm.
Clive then worked his way up with brother Keith to become Director and subsequently Chairman of the company, with daughter Pippa and Hannah and nephew Andrew also joining later. Always learning and wanting to bring high standards to the profession, he has a Diploma in Funeral Directing and was a founder member of SAIF (Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors), which has now reached over 1,000 members. Over the years, Clive has made and is well known for many contributions to the firm and profession, most notably pioneering the first all-electric hearse made in the UK. He is also a Trustee and Chairman of the St Pancras Welfare Trust, which supports those most in need in the old metropolitan borough of St Pancras, Camden. He officially retired in 2020, aged 77, but still works as a consultant behind the scenes to support where needed.
Clive takes great satisfaction in lifting the load of bereavement by dealing with all the practicalities following a death to allow families to mourn without distraction.
He spends his spare time with family or at the allotment and is proud that Leverton’s is a co-sponsor of Haringey Rugby Football Club, including the Ladies teams.
Mark at Levertons helped me with every detail of creating a wonderful service for the late Rajesh (Kiki). I felt nothing was too much trouble and the attention to detail was excellent. My aunt died quite unexpectedly and although I had been to funerals organised by Levertons before this was the first time I had to arrange one myself. I was nervous about meeting my aunt’s requests but Michael at Levertons made sure everything she wanted was catered for and we all as a family were left feeling completely safe and confident that my aunts requests were being met. On the day of the funeral everyone from Levertons was professional extremely polite and respectful. Grief is personal and organising a funeral can be daunting but Levertons gave us a highly professional service while also showing kindness and compassion at an extremely difficult time. My cousins (who had flown over from New Zealand) and I (just landed from Australia) had the tough job of organising a funeral and cremation service for our late Aunt, who had lived in London for over twenty years. From the very first meeting, Deborah, Alison, Samantha and the whole team at Laverton & Sons have been so kind, understanding and helpful. They took care of tiny details and made what could have been an overwhelming process so much easier for us.
