When someone has died ...

Dying at home

When someone has been ill and dies at home, the first thing to do is to call the doctor who has been looking after them and a funeral director who will advise you. The GP can issue the medical certificate of the cause of death.

If a locum doctor or senior nursing professional comes to the house instead, they can issue a statement saying that death has occurred. In either case, you can ask the funeral director to collect the person right away. There is an additional fee for this service out of hours (see Price List).

You may prefer to have the person at home for a while. Perhaps you would like an opportunity to say your goodbyes.
