Making
the Funeral Arrangements
Every
funeral arrangement should be appropriate for the person who has
died and the bereaved. Whether that is something simple or more
elaborate, we are here to ensure that the best possible result
is achieved. Please feel free to discuss any particular or unusual
requests - our advice is free and without obligation.
As
your chosen Funeral Director and unless instructed otherwise,
Leverton and Sons will take responsibility for organising the
chosen venue for the funeral service (if appropriate) and committal
and for securing the services or an appropriate minister or other
officiant. This could be for any religion or indeed, for no religion
(e.g. humanist) if desired.
If
a particular church or other place of worship is requested for
the service then that service will be taken by the resident officiant,
but crematorium and cemetery chapels are available for use by
any officiant and here, the family could also take their own service,
if desired. As well as making the necessary arrangements for the
funeral, our professional services will include: obtaining and
preparing statutory documents, liaising with: Cemetery or Crematorium
authorities, Hospitals, Doctors, Coroner, clergy and other third
parties, transportation of the deceased from the place of death,
use of our offices, mortuary, and chapel of rest (if required);
the presence of a Funeral Director and Funeral Operatives on the
day of the Funeral, together with all necessary advice, assistance
and support.
The
selection of coffins and caskets available to our clients can
be viewed in the coffins
section of this site.
The
transport of the deceased to the funeral venue on the day of the
funeral will be by hearse. We consider that dignity and respect
dictates that this is considered an indispensable part of any
funeral. In addition to the above we can also provide the following
additional services to help your funeral run smoothly:
Limousines
In addition to the hearse, we can provide any number of Daimler
Limousines (seating up to 6 in each) to convey mourners from a
pre-arranged address to and from the funeral. However, if preferred,
mourners may either follow the hearse in their own transport or
meet it at the venue where funeral is to take place.
Chapel
of Rest
All
our premises have at least one Chapel of Rest where relatives
and friends are able to visit the deceased to pay their last respects
if they wish to do so. You may wish the deceased to be dressed
in his or her own clothes. If no preference is given the body
will be dressed in a white gown provided by us.
Embalming
Hygienic treatment is carried out a full time
qualified practitioner. It both affords freedom from infection
to the living and helps to restore a natural appearance and is
therefore recommended in situations where, for instance, the body
is to be viewed. However, it is not a legal requirement and relatives
have complete freedom to decide whether or not they wish the treatment
to be carried out (unless re-patriation is required and the receiving
country's authorities insist upon it).
